1 killed in multi-vehicle Fort Wayne crash
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A four-vehicle crash has left one person dead and eastbound Coliseum Boulevard closed.
Police said a vehicle was heading east on Coliseum Boulevard near Clinton Street at a high rate of speed and hit a vehicle stopped for a red light. The driver of the car that was hit was taken to the hospital in critical condition but later pronounced dead. Two other vehicles stopped at the light were also hit, but no one in those cars was hurt.
The driver and a passenger in the eastbound car ran from the scene through retail parking lots.
Several minutes after the crash, police got a 911 call reporting that the car had been stolen. When officers met with the person who called 911, they realized he matched the description of the driver seen leaving the scene of the crash and detained him.
Crews have closed Coliseum’s eastbound lanes from Clinton to Parnell Avenue. The northbound turn lane is also closed while investigators piece together what happened. Coliseum is expected to be closed at that location for several hours.
This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne police and the Allen County Prosecutor’s office.
