SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – One person has died following a Monday morning crash in Shelby County.

The fatal crash happened in the area near State Road 44 and 625 West just before 7 a.m.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, an initial investigation shows that a 1994 Dodge van was traveling westbound on State Road 44 when it was sideswiped by a 2001 Pontiac Aztec, driven by 45-year-old Amber Hosier. A 2013 Jeep, driven by 25-year-old Kyle Gossage, then hit the van. The van and a 2015 Ford truck, driven by Thomas Urrutia, 62, then collided.

Police said Brettnacher and the driver of the Dodge van were both transported by helicopter to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Just before 2 p.m. Monday, police said the driver of van died as a result of his injuries.

The deceased has not been publicly identified.

The fatal accident did close State Road 44 for several hours, but was reopened around 11:30 a.m.
