12 year old killed, 6 others injured in Cass County crash
CASS COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A child died and six other people were sent to the hospital after a one-vehicle crash west of Logansport Tuesday.
It happened around 5 p.m. According to Cass County Sheriff Randy Pryor, the vehicle was traveling east on U.S. 24. The driver may have been attempting to pass another vehicle when they swerved into a ditch to avoid an oncoming semi.
The vehicle left the road, flipped several times and struck two trees.
Pryor said six of the seven passengers were trapped in the vehicle when first responders arrived.
Twelve-year-old Brianna Botosan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said a 16 year old was driving the vehicle. His parents, Todd and Lydia Graf, were both in the car along with Botosan and three others ages 15, 11 and 7.
The 11 year old was flown to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. Todd Graf was first taken to IU White Memorial Hospital then transferred to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. All other occupants were also flown to Parkview.
In all, three medical helicopters were called to the scene.
Pryor said all occupants in the vehicle were from Ohio. They were traveling back home from vacation.
U.S. 24 was closed for about three hours and has since reopened.
