2 arrested after Westfield man’s possible beating death
WESTFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — Police have arrested two suspects for the possible beating death of a man in Westfield.
Joseph Coccaro of Westfield and Shakka Brogdon of Indianapolis, both 22 years old, were taken into custody in connection with the death of Cory Zimmer.
Zimmer was severely beaten Wednesday afternoon in a parking lot in the 17200 block of Gunther Boulevard, according to police. He died a short time later.
A witness told 24-Hour News 8 she heard men screaming and then found Zimmer on the ground with his face black and blue.
Police don’t believe Zimmer was randomly targeted. His death is the city’s first homicide in three yars.
Coccaro faces the following charges:
- Involuntary manslaughter (level 5 felony)
- Aggravated battery (level 3 felony)
- Aggravated battery (level 3 felony)
- Dealing in marijuana (class A misdemeanor)
Shakka Brogdon is charged with:
- Involuntary manslaughter (level 5 felony)
- Aggravated battery (level 3 felony)
- Aggravated battery (level 3 felony)
