3 hurt after SUV crashes into south side Arby’s

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Three people were injured when a vehicle crashed into an Arby’s restaurant on the south side of Indianapolis Friday afternoon, according to emergency officials.

Emergency crews were called to 3314 S. East Street, near Madison Avenue and E. Troy Avenue, around 2:45 p.m.

Three customers in their 70’s inside the restaurant were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, according to Indianapolis Fire Department Battalion Chief Rita Reith.

Reith said the U-Haul driven by 36-year-old Joshua White was going to Arby’s when it pulled out of Murray Street and tried to cross the northbound and southbound lanes of East Street. White sideswiped the SUV, pushing it 60 feet across the parking lot and into the building.

White and 21-year-old passenger Benjamin Siegman were not injured. The SUV’s occupants, driver 32-year=old William Wyant and passenger 27-year-old Bilie Ford, were also uinjured.

Ten employees and 10 customers were inside when the SUV collided with the building, according to Reith. Damage from the 10 foot by 12 foot hole is estimated at $30,000.

IFD’s structure collapse team stabilized the building.
