$50K up for grabs with texting and driving contest
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indiana high school students can win a $5,000 scholarship by using social media until April 10.
The Indiana State Police want to make students aware of the Drive Now, TXT L8R campaign that discourages students from texting and driving.
Even though it is illegal to text and drive in Indiana, 71 percent of young people say they have sent a text while driving and 78 percent said they have read a text while driving.
Students can work as individuals or a team during the contest to have the largest distribution of their message.
Each category will have a winner from a high school and a post-secondary institution. Each winner will receive $5,000.
The categories for prizes are:
- Twitter: Most retweets and favorites
- Vine: Most likes
- Vine: Most creative
- Instagram: Most likes
- Instagram: Most creative
The winners of the scholarship will be honored in a ceremony at their school and at the Indiana Statehouse in June.
