Gourmet chef teaching kids to cook with Plate It Up workshop

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — For as long as Chef Felicia Grady can remember, she’s loved cooking. Now with the help of her company, Plate It Up Catering, and Broadway United Methodist Church, she’s sharing that passion with Indianapolis youth.

The Plate It Up Culinary Youth Workshop is a weekend fundraiser that’s designed to introduce kids to the culinary arts. They learn the ins and outs of the process and the presentation of putting together a gourmet meal.

Grady said she got the idea after doing a live demonstration for Girl Scouts while in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Now she aims to reach out to more of the youth, hoping to get more of them interested in the culinary industry — or, at the very least, help them gain the life skill of preparing meals for themselves.

Grady hopes to eventually host the workshop quarterly throughout the year.

All Indiana’s Randall Newsome got to see a glimpse of what Grady will be teaching the kids in a live demonstration. Watch the videos for more.
