Nonprofit fine arts academy finds new home in Greenwood Park Mall

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — A nonprofit fine arts program has found a new home in Greenwood.

The Creative Grounds Fine Arts Academy is inviting anyone with kids interested in theater to come see what they’re all about.

Co-founders Mark and Katie Landis have made it their mission to bring quality theater performances to a specific part of Indianapolis.

“We saw a need for an arts program in the southside when we started back in 2014,” Mark Landis said. “Centrally located here in [Greenwood], it’s the perfect space to really grow.”

Their motto, “building individuals up through fostering relationships and growing the artist,” is about making sure they meet kids wherever they are and help them become stronger performers.

Unlike some other programs, CGFAA makes sure every student gets a role in their production.

“The schools are so competitive that students weren’t getting roles and getting cut on a regular basis,” Mark Landis said. “We’re a no-cut program. Students are getting roles no matter their skill set and honing their skills better. We’re training them to be better performers and better people with our wholistic approach.”

When Greenwood Park Mall opened up a space during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Landises seized the opportunity to bring a top-notch children’s theater to the community.

CGFAA auditions are open now, but there’s currently a maximum of 75 kids per production. Click here to sign up and learn more about the Creative Grounds Fine Arts Academy.
