Ammonia spills in Brown County

BROWN COUNTY,Ind. (WISH) – An area in Brown County was evacuated Saturday as a result of an ammonia spill.

According to Brown County dispatchers and Brown County Emergency Management, the spill occurred in the northern part of the county, approximately five miles northeast of Nashville. As of 5:30 p.m., a back hoe and excavator are working on the scene. That section of the road will be closed until nightfall.

Fourteen families were evacuated, but they have since been allowed back to their homes.

The spill happened as a result of a motor vehicle accident involving a truck carrying anhydrous ammonia.
