Andrew Luck going through concussion protocol
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – “…Pretty much well after we were all done with media and the locker room and things like that, both guys didn’t feel right. Both guys went in the training room and saw our docs and both were evaluated for concussions. Both are in the protocol and it’s up to the docs and trainers to monitor that situation so that’s where that’s at,” said Chuck Pagano.
While the Colts emerged victorious against the Titans Sunday, they will more than likely take on Pittsburgh Thanksgiving Day without safety Clayton Geathers and quarterback Andrew Luck. It’s a huge blow for a horseshoe team trying to play catch up in the AFC South.
“When you’re dealing with your franchise player, you know, Andrew Luck is the pulse of not only the offense, but the entire Indianapolis Colts organization,” said Mike Wells.
Although not sure, Pagano believes Luck’s concussion happened in the fourth quarter. The NFL takes concussion protocol very seriously. In fact, only one player this season has been cleared by a Thursday when the injury was sustained the previous Sunday.
“He’ll be wearing a red non-contact jersey, get tested again. Then practice again, and also go through with a doctor. So it’s going to be a tough road for them,” said Wells.
Scott Tolzien will take over for Luck against the Steelers. As for what this backup brings to the Colts offense, Chuck Pagano doesn’t seem too sure.
“I’ve got the same exposure that you guy’s got. He has a limited amount of exposure but he is a pro,” said Pagano.
“Six career appearances, hasn’t thrown a meaningful pass since 2013. One touchdown, five interceptions. Frank Gore better eat his Wheaties because they’re going to need to give him the ball a lot if they expect to beat the Steelers,” said Wells.
The horseshoe will need everyone to eat their Wheaties on Thursday. Pittsburgh holds a 16-6 all-time record over the Colts. It is a reminder of how badly this team needs their franchise quarterback.
