Animal clinic robbers: No one move, no one take out your cameras
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Two masked men on Wednesday afternoon stormed into the FACE Low-Cost Animal Clinic on the city’s east side.
Step into the FACE clinic, and you’ll quickly learn people are willing to wait.
“You can come here and get your dog taken care of, and it’s a cheaper service,” said Britt Ursery of Lawrence.
Keisha Burdine of Beech Grove added,” That’s why I’m here. Because with three kids and three animals, you got to keep the pocket closed.”
The clinic also shelters some animals. It welcomes furry friends.
Not welcome, though, the two men who terrorized the place right before closing on Wednesday.
“They told no one to move, no one to take out cameras. Don’t take out your cellphones. One was basically keeping an eye on the lobby while the other was getting the cash from the staff,” FACE Interim Director Jen Hancock said.
In less than five minutes, the suspects were gone. No animals were hurt. Nobody was injured, although some may have been shaken up. But that didn’t stop the staff from finishing its work.
“They continued to provide care once they got the all clear, continued with the procedures,” Hancock said.
In addition to the low cost, perhaps it’s also the care that keeps people waiting in the lobby, undeterred from coming back.
“It can happen anywhere; the best of the best. You can go to Fishers and a gas station be robbed,” Burdine said.
The suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. They left on foot, and it’s uncertain if a vehicle waited for them. FACE has surveillance cameras outside, and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is reviewing the video.
