Avon teen airlifted after boating accident on Raccoon Lake

PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – A teen was airlifted to the hospital after a Sunday afternoon boating accident.

Indiana Conservation Officers and the Parke County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at Raccoon Lake around 2:30 p.m.

A 13-year-old boy’s right leg became entangled in a tow rope after he fell off a tube being pulled behind a a pontoon boat, according to conservation officers.

His leg was “severed down to the bone,” according to DNR officer Nathan Lutz. The teen was taken by helicopter to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis with non life-threatening injuries.
