Beech Grove community center to host program for “at risk youth”
BEECH GROVE, Ind. (WISH) – Upgrades at the Hornet Park Community Center in Beech Grove are complete. It’s the first step toward providing an “at risk youth program” in the community.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Thursday. City leaders celebrated a new computer lab, exercise room, game room, classroom and security system.
“We want to make sure that every kid counts that lives in this area age 3-17, and we want to make sure kids thrive in a good, safe environment and we want them to learn,” said Mayor Dennis Buckley.
City leaders say the center is already open for use. The goal is to eventually use this space for an “at risk youth program.
“As a former police officer and a father I know that an early investment in our young people leads to greater success in our schools and lower drop-out rates, less crime down the road,” said Representative Andre Carson.
The upgrades at Hornet Park Community Center were made possible by a $237,500 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
