Best Buy opens doors to local shoppers on Thanksgiving

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) – Many stores are kicking off the holiday shopping season a day early, opening their doors on Thanksgiving.

Best Buy is one of those retailers. The store in Greenwood opened its doors at 5 p.m. Thursday. It’s a jump start on holiday shopping many people were hoping for. A line that eventually wrapped around the building started forming around 9 a.m. Thursday.

“I came out for a Toshiba TV, 49 inches and a laptop,” said Kapil Sherma, the first person in line.

Others behind him came for similar items. Some people 24-Hour News 8 spoke with said they saved $200 to $300 by shopping Thanksgiving Day sales.

Store employees said more than 1,100 people walked through the doors in the first hour that Best Buy was open on Thursday.

Greenwood police were on hand, and there were no reports of any issues with the crowd or people waiting in line.

Best Buy was open until 1 a.m. Friday morning. Hours for Black Friday are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
