Brownsburg police find car in homicide investigation

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (WISH) — A man was found dead in a Brownsburg apartment after a neighbor reported hearing gunshots Thursday evening, according to police. It happened in the 7000 block of Meadow Trial, also known as Maple Lane.

Justin Brabson

A neighbor reported hearing three or five gunshots and called 911 around 7 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a man dead inside the apartment. Officers said there were no signs of forced entry.

Police said Friday afternoon a car spotted leaving the scene had been found on the side of I-74 westbound near Crawfordsville just after 1:30 p.m.

Police identified the victim as 30-year-old Christopher Brabson. Officers are now looking for his brother, 28-year-old Justin Brabson.

“We want to speak with him. Again, detectives have been unable to locate him. We don’t know how much information he has. We don’t know if he’s in harm’s way, we’re not sure if he was fleeing for something or if he was involved in any way. That’s the primary thing we want to do right now — we want to find Justin to speak with him,” said Sgt. April Hyde with Brownsburg Police Department.

After hearing gunshots, witnesses said they saw a man speeding away in a 1997 Toyota Camry. The car belonged to Justin Brabson, but witnesses told police they weren’t able to tell if he was the person driving the car.

Hyde said Justin and Christopher’s father lives in Central Indiana and has been talking with police. Their mother lives out of state. Hyde said the Brownsburg Police had “minimal history” with the brothers, but would not release further details.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Justin Brabson, contact Brownsburg Police.

The coroner has not released the cause of death for Christopher Brabson, but Sgt. Hyde said the coroner will perform an autopsy Friday.
