Brownsburg woman arrested in Morgan Co. homicide investigation
MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A Brownsburg woman is in custody for murder after a man was found shot and killed in Morgan County.
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office said Michael Joseph Vanhorn was found dead in his home in Martinsville Thursday. He had been shot multiple times.
Investigators believe the woman accused of the crime, 54-year-old Kristie Dant, had a past with Vanhorn.
“I’m not sure if there was a relationship for this current incident,” said Captain Brent Worth with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office. “There’s allegation there may have been a boyfriend and girlfriend relationship in the past.”
They believe at some point she lived with Vanhorn at his home in the 6800 block of Waverly Road.
“I believe that she did live there off and on,” he said. “I’m not sure what her current residency was at the time of the incident though.”
Crime scene tape blocked off the home Friday evening. Investigators have not released any information on a potential motive.
“She’s being interviewed,” Worth said. “The investigation continues as detectives conduct interviews with her and other people.”
It all started when the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office received a call for a possible shooting. When they arrived on scene, they found the victim dead inside.
Investigators said they received information and learned the suspect had already skipped town.
“What led us to the residence was a third party call which alluded she was involved in the incident,” he said.
Meanwhile, neighbors like Albert Ogden saw the police activity and learned about what happened from his daughter.
“She just said, ‘Dad, I think I know why all the police is back there,’” Ogden said. “I said: ‘Why is that?’ She goes: ‘Well, they’re investigating a homicide back there.’”
Ogden said he didn’t know the victim and that everyone keeps to themselves in his neighborhood. He said it’s pretty quiet for the most part.
“I mean, it’s quiet around here,” Odgen said. “You don’t see anything, you don’t hear anything like that.”
As for the suspect, investigators said there’s a possibility she could face additional charges.
