KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) — The UAW-Chrysler National Training Center in Kokomo and another training center in Michigan will be permanently closing, union leaders have told the Indiana Department of Workforce Development and Kokomo’s mayor.

A notice sent to the department and mayor says 97 people will lose their jobs with the closing of the Kokomo and Warren, Mich, training centers. Workers will have the chance to go to other national training centers.

The closings are expected to happen Oct. 31. The notice was sent to the state Aug. 31.

The reason for the closings was not contained in the notice sent to the state and Kokomo’s mayor from Aaron Sanders, president of the Office and Professional Employees International Union-AFL-CIO in Lansing, Mich., and Cynthia Estrada, a UAW vice president.
