US Commerce Department names Indiana among dozens of tech hubs

Federal government naming ‘tech hubs’ for 32 states, including Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The federal government has chosen Indiana as one of more than two dozen tech hubs across the country.

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration, Indiana’s designated hub is Heartland BioWorks.

The Bloomington-based applied research institute made the announcement Monday.

The designation means the hub can now compete for up to $75 million in grants.

Heartland BioWorks says it will use the grant to make central Indiana a leader in biotechnology and biomanufacturing. The hub is the Indianapolis-Carmel-Anderson metropolitan statistical area.
