Central Indiana set 3 weather records in January
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — While central Indiana started January with temperatures in the 40s and 50s, Hoosiers ended the month with a bitter blast.
There were 15 days where high temperatures were above-normal and 15 that were below-normal.
Even though we saw highs in the middle 50s, the cold snap at the end of the month dropped the average temperature. When you factor in the highs and the lows, the average temperature for the month is 27.4 degrees, which is about a degree below normal.
A couple of big storms this month boosted our snowfall total up to 11.7 inches, which is 3 inches above normal.
January broke three records: One for snowfall and two for temperatures.
On Jan. 12, Indianapolis set a new daily snowfall record of 6.9 inches.
Jan. 30 was so cold we set two new records. The temperature dropped to -11 early Wednesday morning tying the record low for the day. By the afternoon, the mercury only climbed to 3, which set a new record low maximum temperature or coldest high for the day.
Warmer temperatures are going to head into central Indiana by the weekend. You can take a look at the 8 Day Forecast here.
