Colts release Jonathan Newsome following drug arrest

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – An Indianapolis Colts linebacker who was arrested early Wednesday after police say they found marijuana in his residence has been released from the Colts.

Officers were called to Jonathan Newsome’s residence in Zionsville around 2 a.m. after someone complained of loud music. He was arrested around 4 a.m. when police discovered marijuana in his residence.

On Monday, the Colts announced that they were releasing Newsome.

Newsome played football for Ohio State and Ball State before being signed to the Colts in 2014 in the fifth round. He has played 30 career NFL games, according to the Colts.

The Colts issued the following statement after her arrest:

“We’re aware of reports that Jonathon Newsome was arrested in Zionsville this morning but until we have had an opportunity to review the facts relevant to the case, it would be inappropriate for us to make a comment.”

He was taken to the Boone County Jail without incident.
