Corporate leaders call for immediate action on RFRA
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Several businesses have come together in a letter sent to Gov. Mike Pence, David Long and Brian Bosma to share their concerns about the impact of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
The letters were sent on Monday from Angie’s List, Emmis Communications Corporation, Anthem, Inc., Indiana University Health, Cummins Inc., Roche Diagnostics Corporation, Dow AgroSciences, Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Eli Lilly and Company.
The companies said each of their businesses aim to promote fair, diverse and inclusive workplaces.
The letter said “our employees must not feel unwelcome in the place where they work and live. As we seek to attract and retain great talent from Indiana and around the world, it is critical that we make it clear that Indiana is the welcoming state we all believe it to be. As leaders in the Indiana business community, we call on you to take immediate action to ensure that the Religious Freedom Restoration Act will not sanction or encourage discrimination against any residents or visitors to our state by anyone.”
The companies hope new legislation will be enacted to make it clear that no law should be used to justify discrimination. They ended in saying it is the state’s lawmakers responsibility to make that clear to Indiana and the world.
