Court upholds 50-year sentence in elderly woman’s attack
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The Indiana Court of Appeals has upheld an Anderson man’s 50-year prison sentence for attacking and injuring a 93-year-old woman in her home.
Eighteen-year-old Iquise Taylor pleaded guilty but mentally ill last April to strangulation, burglary, criminal confinement and criminal deviate conduct in the July 2013 attack.
Taylor was sentenced to 50 years in prison for the attack that left the elderly woman with a broken toe and “abuse marks” on her face.
The Herald Bulletin reports that as part of his plea agreement, Taylor waived an appellate review of his sentence.
Taylor still appealed in part, questioning whether a Madison Circuit Court judge properly waived the appeal.
But the Court of Appeals ruled last week against Taylor, finding that he “knowingly and voluntarily waived his right to appeal.”
