Crime Stoppers tips up 30 percent in 2015
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Quindara Lovings remembers the day. It was on April 22, 2012 when her cousin Brian Tolson was shot and killed.
“I put myself out there for my family,” said Lovings.
What soon followed was a murder investigation. During the early stages, police would receive a critical tip from Lovings and her nephew Jared Boothe on who pulled the trigger.
Police later arrested and charged Marvin Robinson.
“When it comes to justice for my family, it is no choice,” said Tolson’s brother Jared Booth.
According to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana, tips have increased by 30 percent this year. Crime Stoppers Director Steve Dubios credits the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department for passing out flyers with the tip lines number in six of the city’s most challenged neighborhoods.
“They went to every single door and handed out a flyer and said if you see this type of behavior, call Crime Stoppers,” said Dubois.
Due to confidentially, Crime Stoppers doesn’t release details on tips that resulted in arrest. According to court documents though, it was a tipster that helped police arrest Desi Thomas.
Police said Thomas robbed Joe’s Junction in the 5200 block of West Troy Avenue. During the robbery, Thomas shot Harry Briggs, 45. Briggs died two days later in the hospital.
A tip led police to a home where Desi was hiding out.
Lovings believes more people should get involved and call Crime Stoppers.
“If it was your brother, your child or mother or father, you’re going to tell and be angry and go after justice for your own family,” said Lovings.
