1 dead, 1 injured in Kokomo shooting; suspect arrested

KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) — A man was killed and another was injured in a shooting in Kokomo Sunday morning.

According to Kokomo Police Department, officers were called to the area of Fisher and North Washington Streets at 4:42 Sunday morning on reports of a shooting. That’s on the city’s north side.

When officers arrived to the scene they found two men had been shot. Officers learned an altercation had originally taken place after a hit-and-run at The Country Palace less than a mile away. The altercation, which involved several people, continued in the 2400 block of North Washington Street.

Police have identified Daniel Bray Jr., 34, of Kokomo, as a suspect. They believe Bray fired one shot, striking 23-year-old Cody Kuefner and 34-year-old James Conwell, both of Kokomo. Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital. Kuefner died from his injuries. Conwell’s condition was not released by police.

Bray was arrested and is facing charges of voluntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, criminal recklessness and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He remains in custody at the Howard County Jail.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
