IMPD: Burglary suspect dead; officers return fire after suspect shoots rifle

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — One person is dead following an officer-involved shooting on the city’s north side Thursday morning.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, just after 1:30 a.m., officers responded for a burglary-in-progress call in the 2200 block of Woodglen Drive. That’s northeast of Township Line Road and West 79th Street.

After arriving on the scene, police said shots were being fired at officers by male with a rifle at police.

Officers then returned fire, striking the suspect. The male suspect was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office has identified the suspect as 19-year-old McHale Rose.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

Officers said the shooting happened inside an apartment complex but outside an apartment.

This is the second officer-involved shooting in Indianapolis in less than eight hours.

In the Wednesday evening fatal shooting, a man was shot and killed by IMPD on the city’s north side.

IMPD says the officer and the man exchanged gunfire.
