2 killed, 6 injured in overnight violence

UPDATE: IMPD on Monday identified the man killed in the shooting at North Rural Street and East Michigan Street as 40-year-old David Woodard.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Two people were killed and six more were injured in four shootings and a stabbing early Saturday morning.

Three men were shot at the Rural Inn near the intersection of North Rural Street and East Michigan Street just after 1:30 a.m. One was pronounced dead and the other two are in critical condition, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department say.

About an hour later, a man was fatally stabbed at a house near East 38th Street and North Arlington Avenue.

The first overnight shooting occurred around 12:50 a.m. at the intersection of Shelby and Bates streets just east of downtown. IMPD say the victim is stable.

Two more shootings took place just minutes apart from each other on the east side at approximately 4 a.m. One occurred in the 6500 block of East 46th Street and the second at the intersection of East 42nd Street and North Mitthoefer Road. Both victims are in critical condition, according to police.

There was also a person who walked into IU Health Methodist Hospital around 5:15 a.m. after being shot. IMPD believe that gunshot victim, who is stable, is connected to the shooting at 42nd Street and North Mitthoefer Road.

Police have not released any other information about the age or gender of the victims.
