Friends create 2nd memorial for woman shot, killed by security guard

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Friends created a memorial site on Monday for Nataysia Williams, 25, who was killed on the northeast side on Friday.

A tower of balloons can be seen at the corner of 28th Street and Moller Road, where friends say Williams grew up.

They planed to have a vigil Monday evening.

Carrissa Love told News 8 that Williams was an only child and her birthday was on Oct. 2.

“I’m standing in front of the mic and I look very settled, but it’s a very unsettling feeling. Just because I knew she didn’t deserve it,” Love said.

Witnesses say Williams was shot by a security guard who worked for a security firm contracted by an area housing complex.

A memorial there in her memory was created hours after the shooting.

News 8 spoke with a witness who stopped by Monday to show support. She did not want to be identified.

“I never seen anything like that, so it was just shocking for me, (her) laying out on that ground and bleeding. No one was trying to help her at all. They saw that she was still breathing and everything but no one was trying to call the police, the ambulance or anything,” said the witness.

It’s still unclear what led to the shooting.

“She was very conscious so just to know that it gives me kind of chills and it saddens me and I wish things were different,” the witness said.

Indianapolis police say they detained the security guard for questioning, but he was eventually released. Investigators say the security guard has no affiliation with the department.

Meanwhile, friends grieve over Williams, a person they say they loved and truly adored.

“I’m going to miss her. I really really truly am and that’s all i can say. There’s nothing we can do. Just wait it out wait for justice and express our love for her,” added Love.
