IMPD investigating after man critically injured in hit-and-run

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – One man is in critical condition after a weekend hit-and-run on the city’s north side.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Greg Pitzer was driving west on East 80th Street near Oakland Road, with his family, when he stopped stopped and pulled his vehicle into a driveway on Sunday, April 26 around 6 p.m.

Pitzer was attempting to retrieve an item left on the side of the road when he was struck, police say.

IMPD said Pitzer was hit by a white 2014-2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Instead of stopping, the SUV fled the scene, headed west on East 80th Street.

At the time, Pitzer was taken to the hospital for severe internal injuries. Officers said he remains in critical condition.

IMPD believes the white Jeep Grand Cherokee will have extensive damage on its passenger side, including missing the passenger side mirror.
