Westfield man arrested in connection with fatal shooting

UPDATE: The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 18-year-old Dominic Strain.

WESTFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — Westfield Police Department on Wednesday announced on Twitter the arrest of a 48-year-old man in connection to a fatal shooting early Tuesday morning.

Garrick Baker Sr. is facing charges of reckless homicide and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.

Police say officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Scarlett Street on an unknown medical call around 1:30 Tuesday morning. They found a dead man with a gunshot wound in his right shoulder in the living room upon arrival.

Baker was handling a loaded gun while intoxicated and accidentally discharged it, hitting the man while he was sleeping on the couch, according to police.

Baker’s initial hearing is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, according to online records.
