Woman arrested for attempted kidnapping of 1-year-old at Kokomo Walmart
KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) — A woman was arrested Friday morning after an attempted kidnapping at the Kokomo Walmart, the Kokomo Police Department said.
The victim’s mother said she and her 1-year-old child were shopping at the store located in the 1900 block of East Markland Avenue around 11:30 a.m.
The mother was pushing the child in a shopping cart when she was approached by an unknown woman.
According to the mother, the woman appeared to purposely bump into her. The woman then unbuckled the infant from the cart and attempted to kidnap the child, police say.
A struggle ensued, and the mother regained control of the child. The suspect fled the store.
Officers located the suspect, Chrystalyn Myers, 36, in the store’s parking lot and placed her under arrest. She was found in a vehicle with Gregory Culbertson, 53, of Kokomo, who was also arrested.
Myers is charged with attempted kidnapping, possession of cocaine, false informing and possession of marijuana.
Culbertson faces charges of invasion of privacy, possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
The investigation is ongoing, police say.
