Woman dead in east side shooting
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A woman has died in a shooting on the city’s east side.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the intersection of 10th and Gray streets around 9:49 p.m. Monday on a report of a possible person shot.
They arrived to find a woman in her 50s or 60s suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to IMPD Capt. Harold Turner at the scene.
Medics pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Marion County Coroner’s Office, identified the victim as 58-year-old Karen Groves.
Homicide and crime lab units were called to the area to investigate.
Turner said numerous cooperating individuals were talking to police about what they witnessed.
Police said they had a person of interest seen running from the area but would not be releasing a description on Monday night.
The shooting was believed to be an isolated incident, and no possible motive was provided.
If considered a criminal homicide, it would mark the 120th this year in Indianapolis.
Around 8:30 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a west side apartment complex, where they found two adults dead in an apparent murder-suicide.
