Customer leaves special tip in honor of brother
SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Tennessee waitress had an encounter with a customer she won’t soon forget.
Claire Hudson was working a shift at Mac’s Grub Shack on Sunday when a couple came in and placed their order.
“They ordered a couple of beers. They got some hot dogs and I didn’t even notice they had left such a big tip,” explained Hudson.
When she looked at the receipt for the $28 bill, there was a $36 tip.
“I didn’t know what to say. I was literally in tears,” said Hudson. “It was definitely the best tip I’ve ever gotten. Not because of the money or anything but because of the meaning behind it.”
Unbeknownst to her, Hudson had become part of a yearly tradition.
The couple left behind a napkin that read:
“Today is my brother’s birthday. He would have been 36 today. Every year I go eat his favorite food: hot dogs, and tip the waitress his age. Happy birthday, Wes.”
Hudson told News 2 she was honored to be part of the celebration for Wes.
The restaurant wants to honor Wes every day with a special hot dog on their menu.
The owner of Mac’s Grub Shack is trying to reach out to the family and find out what Wes liked on his hot dogs.
Hudson posted the picture of the napkin online, leading to the story going viral.
