Demo planned for part of Community Hospital East

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Demolition was scheduled to begin Wednesday on the first of several buildings slated to be torn down as part of Community Hospital East’s new campus construction.

Community Health Network said crews would enter the initial stage of external demolition of Building 5, a former administration building.

Network leaders announced plans for a new hospital tower and emergency department in August, 2015 when ground was officially broken.

In total, Community Health said four outdated building would be demolished as part of the $175 million project.

Construction of the tower is set to begin in July, 2016.

Officials said the several phases of construction are meant to not disrupt patient care.

Construction of the new campus is expected to be complete by April, 2019.
