Driver passes in no passing zone and hits trooper

OWEN COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Friday morning a state trooper was hit by a car who was trying to pass in a no passing zone.

Around 7:30 a.m. the trooper was driving down US 231 when he turned on his left turn signal and slowed down.

According to police, when he slowed, he was struck by a GMC pickup truck.

22-year-old Gavin Funkhouser was attempting to pass the ISP car.

After the investigation, police determined no drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Funkhouser was cited for passing in violation of signs and markings.
