Fans gear up for race day with Glamping, Indy 500 camping

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Race fans are gearing up for an exciting weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. On Thursday, the second annual Glamptown opened.

Glampers can check in at 8 a.m. to enjoy glamorous camping.  Race fans will be able to live at the track – in tents – from Thursday through the race. They can enjoy a community grill, a cafe, maybe even queen beds. IMS said “it’s camping with the amenities of a hotel.”

Glamping will be in the infield of IMS for five days and includes infield parking, electricity, private showers and private restrooms. Prices range from $900 – $1,100.

Those looking for a more traditional camping experience began lining up on 16th Street early Thursday morning with campers in tow.

Chopper 8 flew over the long line to get in.

IMS says camping is an event within itself. Where friends and family can come together to enjoy racing.

New security enhancements will be in place during the Indy 500 week to improve comfort in the camping areas.
