Father arrested for fatal shooting of son

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police say a man shot and killed his son on the east side of Indianapolis on Thursday evening.

Officers were called to the 4000 block of Cass Court, near Lawrence, around 8:30 p.m. after reports of a person shot.

Police said 38-year-old Keith Freeman Jr. was found unresponsive in the front yard of the home. Medics arrived on scene and pronounced him dead.

After investigating, detectives said the victim and his father, 63-year-old Keith Freeman Sr. of Indianapolis, were involved in an argument when the elder Freeman allegedly grabbed a handgun.

No other injuries were reported at the home.

Freeman was arrested and preliminarily charged with reckless homicide.

On Tuesday afternoon, Freeman Sr. is scheduled to stand before a judge.

“They were family, they had their ups and downs, I’ve never seen them get that mad,” said neighbor Jackie Denham.
