Former police officer arrested for forgery, theft

NORTH VERNON, Ind. (WISH) – A former North Vernon Police officer was arrested Monday afternoon.

According to the Indiana State Police, 43-year-old Brandy Blevins, a former North Vernon Police officer, was taken into custody after an investigation that spanned several months.

Police said an investigation began in February of this year after an internal audit revealed several discrepancies in the department’s evidence room.

It was later determined that while Blevins was a member of the North Vernon Police Department, she allegedly stole a number of items from the department’s evidence room and it was also discovered that she altered medical records from a medical center and submitted those to the department during a December 2015 audit.

A warrant out of Jennings County was issued for Blevins arrest, she was then taken into custody Monday afternoon.

She was transported to the Jennings County Jail where she faces preliminary counts of official misconduct, forgery and theft.
