Former Zionsville orchestra teacher arrested in child seduction case
ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A former orchestra teacher has been arrested on four counts of child seduction.
33-year-old Michael Plewa of Zionsville was arrested by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday.
According to BCSO, Plewa sent sexual innuendos, photos and suggestive comments to a student while he was the orchestra teacher at Zionsville West Middle School.
The student, now 16, said that the contact begin when she was in eighth grade and continued into her freshman year when her parents became aware of it.
On March 16, BCSO received a report regarding the teen, stating that she had a sexting relationship with Plewa.
Five days later, BCSO notified the school corporation that it was conducting an investigation. Zionsville Community Schools then began its own investigation. Plewa then submitted his resignation.
BCSO said no evidence was found of the inappropriate communication occurring on school-owned devices.
“We will continue to investigate these types of crimes with the greatest priority,” said Boone County Sheriff Mike Nielsen. “Protecting our children in Boone County is one of our number one goals. This is a great example of the Department of Child Services, the Boone County Prosecutors office, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and the Zionsville Community Schools working together to achieve our goal of protecting our children.”
Plewa faces a maximum penalty of 12 years in prison and $10,000 fine.
He has an initial appearance on April 22.
