Fort Wayne shooting leaves woman critically injured

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A woman suffered a severe gunshot wound after someone arrived at the front door of a home she was inside and began shooting.

Police were dispatched to a residence on the 3500 block of New Haven Avenue at approximately 6:45 a.m. Sunday. When officers arrived they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. The woman was initially determined to be in serious condition and was taken to an area hospital where she was determined to be in critical, according to a press release from the Fort Wayne Police Department.

A preliminary investigation by the FWPD found that the woman was inside the home when someone came to the front door and began shooting, striking the woman. The suspect then fled the scene.

Investigators are working to establish whether or not the woman was the intended target, what the relationship between the woman and the house is, and what led to shots being fired. Police are currently interviewing at least one witness at the police station, and are searching for any additional witnesses. Crime scene personnel are processing the scene.

There is no suspect information at this time.
