Gov. Pence signs ABLE Act

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – It’s a big step forward for thousands of Hoosiers living with disabilities.

Governor Mike Pence signed into law the “Achieving a Better Life Experience” or ABLE Act Monday. It creates a savings plan for Hoosiers to better provide for loved ones with special needs by allowing them to save money for disability related costs.

“Right now this bill just kind of puts forth the establishment of a board that will put together the policies and procedures for Indiana’s ABLE Act so next year things will be a lot more structured,” said Kim Dodson of the Arc of Indiana. “This right now just allows us to put together a board that is really a dedicated group of professionals.”

In time, advocates say the law will mean a better quality of life and the ability to plan for the future for those living with disabilities.
