‘Gr8 Comeback’: Owner of Carmel’s newest Kolache Factory celebrates 1-year anniversary

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — On National Kolache Day, Randall Newsome stopped by the Kolache Factory to help its newest location in Carmel celebrate the occasion, along with the shop’s one-year anniversary.

When shop owner Lan Haywood made his first appearance on “All Indiana” in 2020, his shop was getting ready to open its doors. He had no clue of the challenges COVID-19 pandemic would bring. After a tough first year, he’s looking forward to the future.

“We are moving forward through COVID to better days,” Haywood said.

The Fort Wayne native and Ball State grad makes sure when he’s in the building, customers always hear the words “thank you.” And those are words he wants echoed to all those who’ve supported them through their first year.

“We’re looking forward to being here and doing everything we can to serve you to be a part of this community,” he said.

If you’re unfamiliar with a kolache, the eastern European snack is a roll of sweet dough and can come with many different fillings, including breakfast items like sausage, egg and cheese or barbecue for lunch.

The Kolache Factory gave away free fruit and cream cheese kolaches to celebrate with customers during National Kolache Day. Fans also got the chance to win a $1,000 by helping the restaurant chain draw attention on social media.
