Greenfield church’s steeple toppled during storm
GREENFIELD, Ind. (AP) – Members of a central Indiana church aren’t sure whether they’ll replace the 18-foot-tall steeple that was toppled over by strong winds over the weekend.
The Rev. Larry Hof says the steeple at Faith Baptist Church in Greenfield was jutting off at an angle when he arrived Sunday morning. The National Weather Service says winds topped 60 mph as storms crossed the area the night before.
Hof tells the Daily Reporter the steeple was shaken loose during a 2011 storm and was repaired. That didn’t happen this time as the insurance company had contractors remove the steeple.
The church sustained some slight damage to the roof, but normal services were held Sunday and will continue while repairs are made.
