Gun background checks crushed records in June

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Gun background checks crushed records in June, and five Indiana colleges have been named to the “best in the Midwest” list.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted more than 2.1 million background checks in June 2016 compared to about 1.5 million in June 2015. That’s an increase of about 40 percent, which means that 2016 is on track to break last year’s record for background checks.

In other business headlines, Indiana’s Universities fared well in the newest list of top colleges in the Midwest.

For the second year running, university of Notre Dame took top honors. In the larger list of top schools in the country, it ranked a respectable number 13.

Also appearing on the list was Depauw University at number 15, which was the only other Indiana school to make the national list, coming in at number 78.

Continuing the unending battle of IU versus Purdue, both schools showed up on the list. This time, IU squeaked out the win over their arch rival. The Hoosiers ranked number 19, while the Boilmakers trailed them at 21.
