Hospital studies ulcer drug as potential coronavirus cure

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A popular drug to treat stomach ulcers, acid reflux and heartburn is under investigation at Northwell Health in New York City as a potential cure for the coronavirus.

On Monday, News 8’s medical reporter, Dr. Mary Gillis, D.Ed., discussed the drug famotidine and the theory behind its possible effectiveness.

Gillis also discussed an important public health warning from government officials. The over-the-counter drug should not, under any circumstance, be self-administered in an attempt to prevent or treat COVID-19.
