New Palestine’s clerk-treasurer resigns
NEW PALESTINE, Ind. (WISH) — The New Palestine clerk-treasurer has resigned.
Tonii Pyle announced her resignation in a press release on Wednesday. She was still in her first term on the job.
News 8 learned last week that Pyle hadn’t been to the office for weeks. She told News 8 she was working from home due to the pandemic.
She also cited a hostile work environment, in part because of her father-in-law, David Book. Book had previously served as town manager for New Palestine for 30 years. He was fired in March and died a short time later.
“For the last nine months the Clerk-Treasurers office has been trying to bridge the gap to create a healthy working environment with the current town council that the town employees and voters expect and deserve. Unfortunately, that is not going to happen,” Pyle said in a news release announcing her resignation Wednesday.
The Town Council has filed legal action against both Book and Pyle.
