Icy roads cause accidents, car problems

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The icy weather is causing headaches — and car damage — for Indianapolis drivers.

State police said they investigated at least 44 accidents — including four with injury — between Monday and Tuesday afternoon.

The staff at All Star Tire and Auto Service, a repair shop downtown, said they are seeing an influx of customers and they’re expecting more after an icy start to the week.

One automotive technician said drivers can prepare for winter by hiring a reputable shop to check their fluids, test their battery, and make sure their tires are not too worn down or deflated.

IMPD investigated more than 180 crashes Monday night alone. Firefighters said, around 6:30 pm, two cars hit a patch of black ice and slid into a retention pond near 86th Street and Township Line Road. According to IFD, no one was seriously injured.
