IMPD captain taken to hospital after being hit by car

A captain with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is on his way to the hospital after being struck by a car.

IMPD said Captain John Walton was struck on Delaware Street between Washington Street and Market Street on Friday morning.

Police say Capt. Walton was walking across Delaware Street heading toward the City County Building when he was hit by a valet driver.

Officers say he was awake and breathing before being taken to a hospital.

The driver is cooperating with investigators. Officers say there is no sign of any impairment and that this appears to be an accident.
