IMPD: Elderly couple found injured in west side home
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police in Indianapolis are investigating after they say an elderly couple was found seriously injured in a west side home Tuesday morning.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the 5500 block of Rockville Road around 8:40 a.m. The victims’ daughter called 911 indicating her parents had been shot, police say.
“It was a shock when I found out that it happened,” said Taylor Perez, who lives a few doors down from where the incident happened.
When officers arrived they found 72-year-old Levi Jones and 71-year-old Janet Jones suffering from signs of trauma. They were both taken to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital. Police say Levi was listed in fair condition and Janet was in serious condition.
“Nobody should sit there and go in somebody’s house and beat them like that,” said Tammy Harrington who also lives nearby.
Investigators were on the scene into the afternoon. They say there are signs of forced entry. But nothing was taken from the home, and it wasn’t ransacked.
Neighbors say break-ins happen on a regular basis.
“We’ve been having a lot of break-ins around here all the time,” said Harrington while pointing to different houses. “He’s gotten broken into a couple of times, she’s gotten broken into. These houses here are constantly getting broke into. He’s been broken into.
The house is only a few blocks from I-465.
Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. They say no arrests have been made and no suspect information has been released.
Detectives urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
