IMPD: Man broke into apartment, assaulted woman
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Detectives have released a sketch of a man they say sexually assaulted a woman in her north side apartment while she slept.
IMPD officers say the incident happened on June 27 at the Ashton Brook Apartments of Nora, near 91st Street and North College Avenue.
24-Hour News 8 talked with neighbors who said they do not recognize the man in the sketch, but the search causes concern for them.
Michelle Stone said, “It’s a little scary for me, personally as a woman just because I am at home sometimes by myself.”
Helen Coleman said, “I’m concerned about myself because nobody else care anything about you but yourself. You’ve got to be concerned about yourself.”
The victim told police she was alone and sleeping when the man came into her apartment through an unlocked door and sexually assaulted her.
Coleman said, “We shouldn’t be living here in here and they can’t lock the door when you come in it so you can have more privacy. Anybody can walk up here and walk in them doors and come in here.”
Stone said, “I feel like they really are doing the best that they can because I do see police officers other than the on-site officer on site especially at site.”
The parent company of the apartment complex released the following statement:
At the Gene B. Glick Company, we take the safety of our residents very seriously. Unfortunately, no community is immune from criminal activity. We have been working closely with IMPD, and we notified our residents of what happened as soon as we were made aware of the sexual assault. Thank you to the media for helping bring attention to this incident and we hope the public will help us identify the assailant.
Police say the suspect is a Hispanic male in his thirties. They describe him as having an average build and standing five feet and five inches tall and five feet six inches.
