IMPD officer slashed by man with kitchen knife

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An Indianapolis police officer was cut with a knife during a search for a missing person on the city’s east side Tuesday evening.

The incident happened just after 7:30 p.m. in the 800 block of North Bradley Avenue.

Police said they were speaking to the mother of a missing man when he appeared and slashed an officer with a kitchen knife. The officer, six-year IMPD veteran Justin Callahan, had a minor injury to the face and was not taken to the hospital.

The man, identified as 24-year-old Tyshune Neely, fled on foot. He was taken into custody Wednesday and taken to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital for treatment.

Police ask anyone who sees Neely to call 911.
